What about pride?
Growing in the gospel includes fighting for a sense of true confidence. Pride says trust in your accomplishments, your awards, your approval for worth. Pride says you should have confidence based on your performance.
The gospel says that your confidence should come from the performance of another (Jesus). The gospel says your pride shouldn't be in yourself, your moral record, your job performance, your financial security, etc....Rather, your pride should be in the cross. Your only boast should be in the cross. The gospel says our sufficiency comes from Christ, and Christ alone.

I suppose I have to take accountability when I screw up though, right? Or can I blame God as easily as I give glory unto Him? How's that work?
ReplyDeleteNo doubt we are all accountable for our actions. In fact, since we are accountable, we are so far in debt for our actions that the only way we can be saved is through the action of another person, namely, Jesus, who lived the blameless life we should have lived, and died the death we were ultimately accountable for. It's because of this, that God gets all the glory in our salvation, yet we are accountable for not receiving the free gift of His Son Jesus, who lived, died, and resurrected on our behalf.
